U.S. Customs and Border Safety officers have seized greater than three million blue fentanyl tablets hidden in a cargo of inexperienced beans on the Otay Mesa Port of Entry facility.
The main drug bust occurred Monday, April 17 at round 7:21 p.m. Border Patrol brokers say a 48-year-old man driving a tractor-trailer approached the entry with a cargo marked as inexperienced beans.
CBP says as soon as the motive force and cargo load have been pointed over for an intensive agriculture inspection, irregularities have been discovered and CBP officers referred to as in a CBP human/narcotic detector canine, who alerted officers to medication.
Authorities recovered 308 packages of fentanyl tablets stashed inside the inexperienced beans. The tablets, which weighed 776.03 kilos and amounted to three,520,000 in whole, have an estimated road worth of $21,120,000. The tractor-trailer and narcotics have been seized by CBP officers.
“CBP acknowledges our officers’ distinctive efficiency and applaud their continued efforts to guard and serve our communities,” mentioned Rosa Hernandez, Port Director for the Otay Mesa Cargo Facility.
“This seizure offers perception and shows how our officers work collectively in collaboration to maintain this harmful drug off the streets.”
The motive force was detained for the alleged narcotic smuggling try and was turned over to the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)
